Hi all
Just a heads up on the open meetings this year.
First – hooray to the Enterprise Association who actually have ours on their calendar – Saturday 21st May.
The Comets have no 2022 calendar up yet – we’ve asked for Saturday 10th Sept.
….and the Solos. Pete P and myself found them hard to get answers out of last year. It is currently on our calendar on our website for Saturday 2nd April. However – THIS WILL HOPEFULLY CHANGE. – 2nd April clashes with Burghfield. Dave M has asked for 30th April but we’ve not had a peep back off them and it’s not on their website calendar. Now – format:
Previously we have run 4 races: 2+2 with a lunch break. It is proposed (Covid and lanching/recovery hassles over lunch) not to have a lunchbreak but go for either 3 or 4 back-back. We would offer bacon butties (to buy) before and include afternoon tea aftewards,
– 3 races back-back might end up with a very short open meeting. 4 back-back might be too much for some of our fleet. Or stay as it was ?
Ideally we all decide (via. Dave and Myself) so I can get NOR written sometime end of Feb and posted.Enterprise and Comet fleets. Start having a think about the format you’d like for your opens.

Repeating Adam’s earlier message so that it gets seen more widely (sorry to those for whom this is a repeat!):

Disclaimer – I don’t attend opens, so I don’t really know what people look for. While doing as many races as quickly as possible via back-to-back gets racing done, it doesn’t highlight the best parts of Silver Wing. You can go to any ‘ol concrete bowl with better wind. Rather take advantage of what SWSC is good at… easy launching, great views, friendly atmosphere. If you do put in 3 back-to-backs, ramp up the social aspect and have a barbeque or something. The dragon boaters are know this well.
On Solos, as I have mentioned to Dave M, how many SWSC members pay class association fees? We really should encourage Solo sailors to join, so that we can be seen as part of the community. A club with only 2 or 3 registered members won’t get much support and interest from the class association, I would think. We should have at least ten Solo class members.

Good prompt Simon
I just joined, £25 p.a.
You would do well at an Open
Difficulty with cooking/BBQ is predicting and we don’t want to force people to pre-book.

I agree with Simon. I don’t think I would enjoy missing the lunch/toilet/social/rest break. Two races in the morning and 2 in the afternoon seems good to me.
The folk at the last SWSC Enterprise Open really seemed to enjoy the après-sail.

They do have a tally of the number of boats at a club on the clubs page on the website. The number of boats, the name of the club and the fleet captain are all wrong. Yes – I e-mailed them last year!!
There is a link to the boat register that the Dutch association maintain that can be found on the Solo website. Covers all the UK.

He does keep it up to date! I haven’t sent him an update for a year or so. – it says we have 17. boats. I suspect it includes Ken and Carol Andrews. boats. I’m actually not 100% sure of all the boats we have and their sail numbers.
Comets also list us on their club page. I really ought to let them know what we have.
Is it 4 comets (Ken, Eric, Lesley, Helen), 2 Versas and 1 Trio? -
